Due to the abundance of water present in most bathrooms, wall panels that are specifically made for bathrooms are manufactured using thermoplastics or fibreboard with a Medite Exterior commonly called MDF.  The MDF is often then coated with a laminate on both the front and back to prevent damage through water resistance.

In order to make the panels for your bathroom light and easy to work with they are usually comprised of the laminate on the back and front with a honeycombed interior structure.  This honeycomb is well known in the building industry for its rigidity and strength making it an ideal internal structure for these wall panels.  If you intent to use wall panels in a shower that is high powered or expect the board to come into contact with a higher than normal level of water, such as in larger families, then it is also advisable to improve on the honeycomb system by adding silicone beads to the internal structure.  Wall Panels for Bathrooms

Styles to Choose From

Depending the style and design of your bathroom, you may wish to look at the types of effects that are available in the marketplace.  These include woodgrain, marble or granite as well as tiled and mosaic.

Sizes of Most Wall Panel Sheets

The most common sizes of sheets are 4×8 foot sheets with an average thickness of around three eighths of an inch.  When you decide on the type of panels you would like for your bathroom, it will benefit you to have them cut professionally.  Cutting of bathroom panels can result in shredding of the edges which can result in moisture finding its way into the core of the board and reducing its impervious to water.

Installation Facts

While wall panels can be installed against any type of wall including concrete, plaster and ceramic tile, you will want to ensure that the surface is suitable to house the fixing screws and plugs as well as any adhesive that you may be using.   Many of the options available include seamless panel clips which allow for panels to be put side by side with no room for water to enter.

You can purchase bathroom panels in kit form too which makes the process of putting them together that much easier.  This will however require a degree of diy knowledge to ensure a professional job.

Care and Maintenance

Due to the type of materials that are used in their construction, wall panels for bathrooms are durable and able to deal with the high levels of moisture.  They are also able to deal with a wide range of detergents including bleach and make cleaning bathrooms that much easier, eliminating the need to clean grouting which is one of the main areas of concern for many people.

Whatever type of wall panel you decide to purchase, you can be assured that the product will last for years and with just a minimum amount of maintenance will hold its looks for many years to come.
